Shaping the Future of Recreation
A collaborative initiative to align Recreation’s priorities with university goals, fostering innovation and creating lasting impact for the campus community.
About our Work
The UC San Diego Recreation Strategic Alignment Project is a collaborative initiative designed to align the department’s priorities with the broader goals of the university. Spearheaded by The Design Lab and led by Education Manager Kevin Popovic, this program leverages design thinking methodologies to tackle organizational challenges, foster innovation, and enhance the impact of recreation on campus life.
With a focus on strategic problem-solving, the project engages leadership and management teams in defining clear, actionable priorities that address the department’s growth, evolving needs, and role within the campus community. By aligning these efforts with the Student Affairs and Campus Life Strategic Plan (SACLSP), this initiative aims to create a roadmap for a more dynamic, inclusive, and impactful future.
This is more than a project – it’s a commitment to ensuring UC San Diego Recreation continues to inspire, connect, and serve students, staff, and the greater campus community.

This project is about more than just solving problems—it’s about creating a shared vision that empowers the Recreation Department to thrive. By aligning our efforts with the university’s strategic goals, we’re building a foundation for meaningful, lasting impact on the campus community.
